Coca-Cola has announced that it will launch soda drinks containing lemon-flavored alcohol from Japan in October, CNN reported.

Scott Lace, a spokesman for Coca-Cola, said, "We have been testing and selling lemon flavored drinks containing 3 to 7% alcohol in Kyushu, Japan in May."

Coca-Cola alcoholic beverage is modeled on Chu-hai, a kind of canned lemon shochu popular in Japan, CNN reported.

Coca-Cola is the first to sell alcoholic beverages in large quantities, CNN added.

Coca-Cola has focused on developing alcoholic and coffee-containing beverages as the traditional carbonated beverage market shrinks.

Coca-Cola reported revenue of $ 10 billion ($ 11.79 billion) and net income of $ 2.61 billion ($ 3.77 billion) in its second-quarter results.

Net income increased 12% from the same period last year ($ 2.32 billion).

After adjusting, earnings per share surpassed the market consensus of 63 cents (61 cents).

The Coca-Cola stock rose 5.6% on the back of better-than-expected earnings.
