Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law on the suspension of the Treaty on the Elimination of Intermediate-Range and Shorter-Range Missiles.

In early 2019, Washington announced a unilateral withdrawal from the INF Treaty, accusing Moscow of violating the agreement.

The formal reason for the suspension of the participation of the American side in the INF Treaty was the possibility of the Russian 9M729 missiles.

Moscow, in turn, maintains the position that Washington has been violating the provisions of the treaty in question since it began using its target rockets in 1999.
