Tens of thousands of people took to the streets of Hong Kong this Sunday, with the situation becoming more tense throughout the day.

This Sunday, July 21, there were 430,000 in the streets of Hong Kong, announced the organizers at the end of the day. The theme of the demonstration: to call for an independent commission of inquiry into police violence. But after a leisurely afternoon, the situation spread to different parts of Hong Kong Island, reports Hong Kong correspondent Florence De Changy.

Tear gas on the streets

As night fell, protesters blocked several roads on Hong Kong Island. The police then used tear gas to try to disperse the crowd, including in front of the Beijing Liaison Office, as well as the Central Authorities Office in Hong Kong.

Because the demonstrators finally went several kilometers beyond the road authorized by the police. Until then, the police had been little visible and this new afternoon of walking had taken place in a most peaceful atmosphere.

Protesters have "no intention to give up"

Among them, a protester masked in black to the glasses explains the significance of the huge black flag he wears and wields in the crowd.

" First of all, it's a continuation of our dress code. Because we are all black. Then a black flag is the opposite of a white flag that means "surrender" so we are the opposite, we have no intention to give up.
For us, it is also to mourn people who lost their lives during this movement . "

Since the tension has risen considerably at different places on the island of Hong Kong. Most of the youth on site are masked and barricades are erected. At the end of the day, the demonstration degenerated as the police fired rubber bullets at the protesters.

This is the seventh weekend in a row that these anti-government protesters parade through the streets.
