The Abu Dhabi Court of Appeal, at its hearing yesterday, the case of the indictment of a man of the nationality of an African country resisted a policeman and then fled the scene of the incident, and decided to postpone the hearing to July 30 to pronounce the verdict.

The details of the case are the result of a police officer awakening an African youth sleeping in a public facility in Abu Dhabi to inquire about his identity and reason for sleeping in a public place. However, the accused quickly paid the policeman and fled. The suspect was tracked down and arrested.

The first instance court sentenced the defendant to three months in prison after being expelled from the state after serving the sentence. The verdict was not accepted by the accused.

During the appeal, the defendant denied the charge of assaulting and assaulting a police officer. He said he was asleep at the time of the incident and was afraid of the person who was trying to wake him up, causing him to unconsciously push him away and thinking he was defending himself.

The defendant pointed out that he was not convicted in any previous cases and that he did not issue any problems or complaints during his stay in the country. He demanded his innocence and the use of utmost mercy and compassion with him, especially since he spent one month in detention.
