Huawei operates an operating system called HongMing which was initially thought to be an alternative to the Android system. But recent comments from one of the company's executives indicate that this is not the case and that Huawei will continue to use Android for its future mobile devices.

Chen Chen, board member of Huawei and First Vice President, said the Hongming system is designed for industrial use rather than smart phones, according to the media in Brussels.

Chen said the Hongming system was under development before discussions on an alternative to the Android system after Huawei was blacklisted by the United States.

It also said Huawei plans to continue using Android, although the report gave no further details.

Hongming .. a clever Chinese movement

The news comes after the Hongming system was widely expected to replace the Android system after the US government put Huawei on a list of entities that would prevent it from working with companies like Google.

"We are very happy that we are part of the Android family, but Hongming is being tested in China," said Andrew Williamson, vice president of communications and public affairs at Huawei.

The company recently filed trademark registration applications for the Hongming system in several countries including Cambodia, Canada, South Korea and New Zealand, Reuters reported in June, citing data from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

Richard Yu, head of consumer division at Huawei, told CNBC in June that he would be ready to implement a new mobile operating system by the fourth quarter of this year in China if they did not reach an agreement with Google.

Yu also told German Web site Die Welt in March that he was working on Plan B for an operating system if he could no longer use the Android systems from Google or Windows from Microsoft.

Chen's comments also come after a Reuters report indicated that the United States may approve licenses allowing US companies to deal with Huawei again in less than two weeks.

Has Huawei fooled everyone by suggesting that Hong Ming OS is ready to replace the Android system while it was designed to pressure it to abolish sanctions?
