This was reported by RIA Novosti in the Russian embassy.

"In a conversation with us, the representative of the shipowner confirmed the information about the three Russian sailors on board," said Andrei Ganenko, press attaché.

Currently, the embassy staff are clarifying the details of the incident.

Earlier, the shipowner reported that the British oil tanker Stena Impero, detained by Iran, has three Russian citizens.

On July 19, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced the detention of the tanker Stena Impero under the British flag in the Strait of Hormuz in connection with its violation of international shipping regulations.

There are a total of 23 people aboard the detainee tanker: in addition to the three Russians, also citizens of Latvia, the Philippines and India.

Stena Bulk & Northern Marine Management reported that a British tanker is heading for Iran’s shores.
