The admission platform Parcoursup delivers its first figures from 2019 before its closing Friday, July 19 at 23:59: out of the 900 000 graduates, nearly 60 000 have still not obtained an offer of assignment.

One step ends at midnight. While Parcoursup started May 15, and after the results of the baccalaureate, the Ministry of Higher Education announced Friday, July 19 a first assessment of the device.

More than 88% of graduates received at least one orientation proposal, compared to 85% last year at the same date : figures quite similar to those of 2018, when the platform was launched.

With a change: the modification of the calendar. In 2018, the main phase was completed by the start of the school year on 5 September . But this year, to avoid criticism due to slow response times, the government has chosen to shorten the schedule. Both to return the refused places to the system more quickly and to offer them to other candidates. The goal is to go faster, to generate less stress.

Some are fixed, others are on the floor

A few hours before the closing of the main phase, Friday 19 July at midnight, 58,724 young people are still waiting for assignment. This represents nearly 8% of applicants without a proposal.

To accompany them, the ministry has put in place several devices. With the first line, the so-called " complementary " phase which began on June 25 and is operational until September 11, with this advice issued to candidates: regularly look at the sectors where there are still places and make new wishes.

A Commission for Access to Higher Education (CAES) as a last choice

Another mechanism is the Higher Education Access Commission (CAES), to provide them with an adapted solution. At the beginning of the week, the Minister of Higher Education Frédérique Vidal went to visit one of these access commissions, in Créteil (Val-de-Marne, Paris region). Everything has been scrutinized: school reports, grades obtained at the baccalaureate level , letters of motivation from students. All with the sole objective of finding a training for young people who have been stuck in Parcoursup.

The committee will even look at the geographical proximity of the training, as students will not have to spend more than one hour and 15 minutes on the transportation to get there.

This commission, with more than 60 people, divides the task into several poles. The analysis center is responsible for students who have obtained a general bac. The class-gateways is planned for the recalés of professional and technological sectors. And finally the pole rebound, for those who asked for a training in nursing.

5,600 candidates filed with CAES

This year, the Ministry of Higher Education has innovated, with the implementation of an interactive map that lists more than 5,000 courses where there are still places. The sectors in the lead are the BTS, followed by university licenses - especially in letters. On the other hand, places are scarce in the health sectors.
