The Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny will put the music in parentheses to better join his voice to the big demonstrations demanding the resignation of the governor of the island, accused of corruption.

The 25-year-old Latin Latina muse announced Thursday in a video posted on Instagram that he would return to Puerto Rico after four previously scheduled concerts in Europe, rather than recording his new album in Miami .

"I'm going to take a break in my career because I have neither the head nor the heart to make music," explained Benito Martinez, his real name.

"I will go to Puerto Rico," he added. "I will not be silent, I will not let Puerto Rico do it."

Thousands of people have taken to the streets in recent days in Puerto Rico - US territory - to demand the resignation of Governor Ricardo Rossello, who is facing corruption charges.

The 40-year-old leader also needs to explain sexist and homophobic messages aimed in particular at singer Ricky Martin.

Bad Bunny collaborated with other Puerto Rican artists - Calle 13 and singer iLe-- on a protest song, "Afilando Los Cuchillos" ("Sharpening Knives").

"I am ashamed but, at the same time, I am proud that so many people from different parts of the island are making their voices heard with a common goal: that the governor resign," said iLe to AFP by phone.
