After four hours of interrogation on two alleged crimes, assistance with illegal immigration and refusal of obedience to a military boat for forced entry into the port of Lampedusa on 29 June, Carola Rackete left the Palace of justice of Agrigento. In front of the latter, she appealed to the European Union so that NGOs that save lives no longer face situations similar to those of Sea-Watch.

Carola Rackete appeared much more relaxed after her interrogation than when she crossed the door of the Agrigento court . She was accompanied by her lawyer who said that she could return to Germany as soon as she wanted, that she was no longer captain, because the Sea-Watch crew changed and she wanted to devote to other activities.

For her part, the young woman spoke of the relief she felt after having explained herself to the judges, before launching this appeal in Brussels: " I sincerely hope that the newly elected European Commission and the European Parliament will the maximum to prevent such a situation from happening again in the future. And that all European countries will work together to welcome people rescued by civilian boats . "

For the moment in Italy, no representative of political party has reacted to this call, but we know that the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Salvini, is determined to camp on his positions hostile to the reception of rescue ships .
