Rally against domestic violence and feminicide, July 6, 2019, in Paris. Martin BUREAU / AFP

Seventy-six women have already been killed by their partner or ex-companion since the beginning of 2019. More than one in ten Franciliennes is a victim of violence within her marriage, hence the need to develop a victim support tool.

The principle is simple, a scale of values ranging from 1 to 24, from green to red, to indicate what is considered healthy in a romantic relationship or what is harmful or even dangerous. The examples on the violent violometer come from testimonies collected by the association En Avant Tout (s). This allows to compare and situate his relationship.

The violentometer was created at the end of 2018 by the Hubertine Auclert Center , and is inspired by a similar tool that was developed in Mexico.

This center includes a regional observatory of violence against women, who participated in the development of the violentometer, in collaboration with Hélène Bidard, deputy mayor of Paris for equality between women and men, the observatory of the Seine-Saint -Denis violence against women and the association En Avant Any (s) .

" This tool makes it possible to wonder for example about jealousy, which is often described as being a proof of love, " explains Aurélie Latourès, researcher at the regional observatory of violence against women.

Young women are underrepresented

In phase of finalization but already very coveted, the violent meter will be present in all the high schools of the region in the autumn of 2019. Aurélie Latourès is surprised by the popularity of the object, of which 10 000 copies have already been ordered in the space a month. The interested parties are for the most part schools or professionals related to young people. Sensitizing them and alerting them to psychological and physical violence that may appear very early is necessary.

Louise Delavier, in charge of missions and responsible for the communication of En Avant Tout (s), explains: " We are one of the only associations in France to take an interest in young women who are" off the radar " (this is that is, they are underrepresented, so it is important to have a space dedicated to them. "

A national survey on violence against women in France (ENVEFF) in 2001 shows that among 18-25 year olds, one in seven women were victims of violence within their couple. In Avant Any (s) notes that some forms of violence are trivialized, so that one would not necessarily characterize them as domestic violence. In the collective unconscious, it is the image of a beaten woman, more than thirty, married with children who returns, while the psychological violence is also very numerous.

" But before we get to physical violence, there must have been psychological violence ," says Louise Delavier.

A suitable means of communication

Prevention for young women is essential because they do not feel necessarily affected by domestic violence. This is why En Avant Any (s) created a chat, since it is a means of communication more suited to young people who do not have the reflex to call.

On this chat, we find many questions about the life of a couple but the term of domestic violence is not used. In the end, about one in two women on the online chat site is the victim of violence, has been forced to have sex with her boyfriend for example.

Louise Delavier believes that " the sexual relationship not consented within a couple is an act whose severity is often trivialized . "

Fight against domestic violence

Forward All (s) intervene in schools, especially colleges with activities in mixed and non-mixed. These interventions are done without the presence of teachers and bring to light certain situations, such as forced marriage.

According to a survey conducted in 2019 by the Kantar agency, 57% of French people consider the fight against domestic violence as a priority and 95% of the population want perpetrators of sexual and gender-based violence to be punished more severely and we improve the care of victims of violence.

The Regional Observatory of Violence Against Women has also mapped the professional structures that can accommodate women victims of violence in order to improve their care.

For Louise Delavier, there is a real lack of women's rights, and the Grenelle of domestic violence to be held from September 3, 2019 to November 25, 2019 is a good thing.

" But we are waiting for a real effort, and above all, a valuation of what we do at the associative level. So we must give it the means .

Many times shared on social networks, the # violent meter helps to measure the #violencecjugale. Did you test it @ @ above all @CentreHubertine
