Élisabeth Borne was appointed, Tuesday evening July 16, Minister of Ecological Transition and Solidarity to succeed François de Rugy. Élisabeth Borne keeps the transport portfolio that she has been piloting since 2017, a double hat that will bear the one that led the reform of the SNCF. An overview of the files awaiting Élisabeth Borne as Minister of the Ecological and Solidarity Transition.

The first issue is the energy and climate law . MEPs voted in first reading a more ambitious law than the initial project carried by the government. The text sets ambitious targets for the French state such as the carbon neutrality law by 2050, a 40% reduction in fossil energy consumption by 2030 and the closing of the last coal plants in 2022.

The law on mobility is also a dossier that is waiting for Élisabeth Borne. In charge of this bill since she was Minister of Transport, she is in the process of completing this major project. The text will return in September in a new reading in Parliament if there is no agreement between the Senate and the National Assembly. This text has a very strong environmental component.

Finally, Elisabeth Borne will have to look into the closure of the Fessenheim nuclear power plant and will have to negotiate the new common agricultural policy for the period 2021-2027, currently criticized by the European Court for its lack of ambition on the ecological level.
