Activists called for solidarity with American citizen Reem Desouki, who was arrested by the Egyptian authorities from Cairo airport a few days ago. The Supreme State Security Prosecution decided to detain her for 15 days on charges of "joining a group established contrary to the provisions of the law."

Activists launched a campaign called "Release RIM," calling on human rights groups to defend it, especially US human rights organizations. They also asked to address members of Congress, the State Department and the US Embassy in Cairo.

Reem was arrested at the Cairo International Airport on July 7, when she arrived from the United States with her son Mustafa, 12, where the security authorities arrested her for 18 hours at the airport. The child was then released without revealing the mother's place.

According to human rights sources came the arrest of Reem because of its criticism of President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi on the sites of communication. However, the prosecution has accused it of joining an illegal group "whose purpose is to call for the disobeying of the constitution and laws, to prevent state institutions and public authorities from carrying out their activities and to disseminate false news about the political and economic situation in the country.
