Al-Houthi group announced the targeting of the King Khalid Air Base in Khamis Mushayt in the Asir region and other military locations in southwest Saudi Arabia with marching aircraft, while the Saudi-UAE alliance said it had shot down two planes.

The military spokesman in the name of the Huthis Brigadier General Yahya Seree said the air attack targeted weapons stores stuttering warplanes and other military sites.

The spokesman added that the operation of the air force on the Khamis Mushayt air base hit its targets accurately and led to a large fire in the arms stores.

In contrast, the Saudi-UAE alliance said it had shot down two Houthi-run aircraft.

The coalition explained that the process of intercepting and dropping the two planes resulted in the fall of shrapnel and parts in a residential neighborhood, causing a residential building and some vehicles suffered minor damage, without loss of life.

The Houthi group has recently stepped up its attacks on medium-range and medium-range missiles on Saudi targets, most notably the airports of Saudi cities bordering Yemen, especially Abha airport.

Since September 2014, the Huthis have controlled the capital, Sana'a, before expanding to a number of the country's provinces.

Since March 2015, a Saudi-led military alliance has backed government forces against the Houthis in a war that has left a severe humanitarian crisis, the worst in the world, according to a former UN report.
