A parliamentary inquiry report was made public in the Central African Republic this weekend. He advocates the cessation of mining activities of Chinese companies in the region of Bozoum. The inquiry was conducted at the request of the Conference of Presidents of the National Assembly, following numerous complaints from the people. The research had to concern the pollution caused by the production of gold along the Ouham stream. The report's conclusions go further.

An " ecological disaster ". This is how the parliamentary commission of inquiry describes the situation in the Bozoum area. It describes various phenomena such as the deviation of the river from its natural bed, deforestation, water pollution or the disappearance of aquatic species. The Committee is also concerned about the health damage that suggests the use of mercury for the search for gold in the area .

The finding of the commission of inquiry does not stop there. The parliamentarians denounce the important presence of Central African soldiers for the protection of mines at a time when " the population demands its army ". In addition, violence committed by the Central African Armed Forces (FACA) against the populations in these areas is also denounced.

Finally, the question of permits and yields is underlined by the report.

" The exploitation of gold by Chinese companies in Bozoum is not profitable for the state, " reads the report, which also questions the complicity of fraudulent practices of executives of the mining administration.

MEPs are worried about a " possible revolt " if nothing is implemented.

The Chinese companies concerned are Tian Roun, Tian Xiang, SMC Mao and Meng.
