Floods and landslides caused by a torrential monsoon have left many dead and missing in South Asia since Thursday, July 10th.

In Nepal, the Interior Ministry announced 55 dead and 30 missing, while more than 1,100 people were rescued, according to the country's police spokesman, Bishwaraj Pokharel.

Ten thousand people have been forced to leave their homes since Thursday, especially in mountain areas where large areas are flooded.

Nepal, Northeast India and Bangladesh

Since Thursday, heavy rains have affected several parts of Nepal, particularly the eastern parts of the country and the southern plains. According to the Nepalese authorities, the rivers are expected to return to normal levels from Monday.

Northeast India has also been hit. At least 11 people were killed in the floods in Assam State, which also has 1.5 million displaced.

In refugee camps in southeastern Bangladesh in the Cox's Bazar region, home to more than 900,000 Rohingyas, a Muslim minority who fled Burma, at least 10 people have died, according to a UN report. . 500,000 displaced people are also lamented in Chittagong, where 200 villages are flooded.

The monsoon season, which runs from June to September, causes deaths and destruction every year in South Asia.

Last year, more than 1,200 people were killed in the weather, and the Indian region of Kerala had suffered its worst floods in nearly a century.
