The French Simon Pagenaud (Penske), winner of the 500 miles Indianapolis in May, will start Sunday from pole position at the GP of Toronto, 11th of the 17 rounds of the IndyCar Championship, after having signed Saturday the best qualifying time.

On the fastest lap in 58 seconds 4293, Pagenaud beat New Zealander Scott Dixon and Sweden's Felix Rosenqvist.

American Alexander Rossi (Andretti), winner of Road America in June, finished fourth, just ahead of his fellow countryman Josef Newgarden (Penske) with 402 points, just seven more than Rossi, 2nd.

Finally, the French Sebastien Bourdais, crowned four times in ChampCar (championship since absorbed by the IndyCar) between 2003 and 2007, signed the 8th time.

The Toronto GP will start Sunday at 15:00 local time (19:00 GMT).
