The 23-year-old Danish defender of Sampdoria Genoa Joachim Andersen has signed a five-year contract with Olympique Lyonnais for EUR 30 million, the club announced Friday, recording the biggest transfer of his history.

OL, which wanted to recruit a major central defender, has agreed with Sampdoria for a dry amount of 24 million euros, plus a maximum of 6 million euros in bonuses, said the Rhone club in a statement.

This is a new record for the Olympique Lyonnais after the recruitment of former Lille midfielder Thiago Mendes (26.5 M EUR) earlier this month. This is also the largest amount ever incurred for the transfer of a Danish player.
