“A thorough exchange of views was held on the problems of the Middle East settlement,” the message says on the Kremlin website.
It is noted that Russia's readiness was confirmed to continue taking steps to advance the peace process, including the resumption of direct Palestinian-Israeli negotiations in order to reach mutually acceptable solutions.
Abbas also thanked Putin for the efforts of Russian diplomacy to promote inter-Palestinian reconciliation.
Earlier it was reported that Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas will visit Russia in the summer.
