This was said Thursday evening a representative of the Military Council in power in a speech broadcast live on national television. The announcement comes as military and political opposition must sign in the coming days a final power-sharing agreement brokered by the African Union and Ethiopia.

General Jamal Omar, one of the seven members of the ruling Military Council , announced the " coup attempt ". " Among the putschists are army officers and soldiers, as well as members of intelligence services, including some pensioners, " he said. He added that twelve officers and four soldiers had been arrested. An investigation is under way, he said, to determine who is behind this attempted coup, but without specifying when it was held.

According to this general, the objective was to oppose the power-sharing agreement concluded last week between the army and the opposition. An agreement whose final text was presented last night to both delegations. And that should be signed in the coming days.

Dissent exists within the security forces. Moreover, last month, the Transitional Military Council had already mentioned an attempted coup and carried out a wave of arrests .
