The fishermen of the eastern region told Al-Ittihad Al-Youm that the importation of fish from abroad should be regulated before they are distributed to the markets. The importation of large quantities of fish reduces the prices of the fish they fish, increasing the challenges facing the fishing profession.
Fishermen pointed out that the prices of fish are determined on the basis of a daily auction held in the fish markets, pointing out that, despite the supervision of the Fishermen's Association on the auction, but fishermen suffer the decline of their gains now, compared to what was the case, because of the large import and non-codification.
"The Environment and Protected Areas Authority held a meeting to discuss the problems and challenges faced by fishermen in the eastern region, and gathered a number of fishermen to discuss their problems in detail, to look for sustainable solutions," said Mohamed Ibrahim, vice president of Kalbaa Fishermen's Association.
