Andy Murray and Serena Williams stop there. The unprecedented duo was eliminated Wednesday in the round of 16 of the Wimbledon mixed doubles by the seeded pair N.1, Bruno Soares / Nicole Melichar, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.

Formed in extremis just days from the start of the tournament, the pair of 26 Grand Slams (including 3 for Murray, ed), have spent only two rounds at Wimbledon.

The Scotsman, who is attempting a comeback after thinking he had to stop playing tennis after a hip operation, explained Tuesday after their second victory that he would probably not play at the US Open (August 26 - September 8).

"It's unlikely because of the timing," said Murray, a two-time singles winner in London. "There is a lot of physical work to make me stronger, but unfortunately there is still a lot of work to be ready for singles and to be strong enough to play in five sets," he added.
