Nepal's courts on Tuesday sentenced a Canadian for pedophilia. Peter John Dalglish, arrested last year, receives two separate sentences of 9 and 7 years in prison. Two sentences for two victims, boys aged 12 and 14 at the time of the crime.

In appearance, John Dalglish was a perfect altruist. The Canadian founded an international aid network for street children in the 1980s, and then became responsible for a child-care program in Nepal, before taking over as head of the United Nations Habitat in Afghanistan office in 2015.

A work rewarded in 2016, when he was awarded the Order of Canada, one of the country's most important civilian honors.

During his trial, John Dalglish relied on the humanitarian record of defense. In addition to denying the facts, the sixty-year-old assured that he had only one goal: to work for the well-being of people around the world.

This argument has not convinced judges in a country that is trying to strengthen its fight against foreign pedophiles. In recent years, several emblematic convictions have been pronounced, including one against a Frenchman convicted of raping a dozen Nepalese orphans 10 years ago.

In addition to the two prison sentences, John Dalglish will have to pay the equivalent of $ 4,500 to each of his victims, one of whom was the son of one of his servants. He promised to appeal.
