There was no election of the governor of Sankuru province on Wednesday, July 10th. The National Independent Electoral Commission (CENI) spoke about the security reasons. Violence had already pitted the activists of candidates Joseph Stéphane Mukumadi and Lambert Mende, the former spokesman of the government.

The president of the CENI raised the security reasons for this new postponement. As in other provinces, the poll for Sankuru was scheduled to take place on April 10, but was postponed until the 13th of the same month, before being reprogrammed again. Finally, at the suggestion of Felix Tshisekedi , he was sent back at a later date.

Basile Olongo, Interim Minister for the Interior and Security, argued that the security situation and the tension were extremely serious and did not allow this election to be held. One person was killed, several others were shot and houses burned in the area.

Joseph Stéphane Mukumadi's activists opposed the decision of the Court of Appeal which dismissed their candidate, making Lambert Mende, former spokesman for the government, the only candidate.

Finally, the Council of State reinstated Mukumadi's candidacy. Unhappy, Lambert Mende has seized the Constitutional Court.
