In Colombia, the Supreme Court of Justice issued an international arrest warrant against FARC member Jesus Santrich. The latter was to appear Tuesday at a summons from the highest court in the country in the context of a request for extradition of the United States who accused him of having sent 10 tons of cocaine after the signing of the peace agreement between the former FARC guerrillas and the Colombian authorities. A case that could jeopardize a process that is already well under attack.

It was an expected decision since Jesus Santrich disappeared on the night of June 30th. Claimed by US justice, he was expected to appear in court on Tuesday for questioning on a request for extradition from the United States. His absence raised an outcry of outrage among the ranks of the FARC political party, which in a statement, expressed his disappointment.

Jesus Santrich had nevertheless chosen the return to legality and had even obtained a seat of deputy during the last legislative elections. A defection that undermines a peace process that is struggling to take place, even if the Colombian president has held to reassure those who have not returned to hiding .

" Those who sincerely are trying to get into the law by respecting the principles of truth, justice, reparation and non-re-engagement will benefit from state support. But we will be relentless with those who continue with these criminal activities, those who want to continue to reoffend and those who claim to make fun of the rule of law, "said Ivan Duque.

While a majority of the FARC party members say they are disappointed, like the authorities, another fringe has chosen to distance itself, believing that Jesus Santrich could be the object of judicial assembly for the sole purpose of the extradite to the United States.

This is particularly the case of Jairo Cala, who on Tuesday called on the international community to put in place legal guarantees to ensure that such cases are not repeated.
