MEPs and government paid tribute on Tuesday to MP MoDem Patricia Gallerneau, who died Sunday, an elected "exemplary" in the eyes of all.

"Condemned for months" by cancer, this elected Vendée has "continued to assume its parliamentary responsibilities," said the President of the Assembly Richard Ferrand (LREM). "It embodies the dedication and the sense of the general interest" and "the National Assembly has lost an exemplary MP," he added.

MPs, members of the government and staff of the Palais Bourbon then observed a minute of silence.

Then the boss of the MoDem deputies Patrick Mignola, very moved, spoke about his "commitments" in favor of the biodiversity or the human dignity, and evoked a "whole and so warm woman".

Prime Minister Edouard Philippe replied, "with a lot of sadness but also a lot of hope, because the lives that are worth example are the most beautiful".

"We can all be proud of her," he concluded with applause.

Born in Paris in 1954, Mrs. Gallerneau, retired from the public service, was elected as a member of Parliament in 2017. She was a member of the Committee on Sustainable Development and Regional Planning in the National Assembly.

Ms. Gallerneau was also Regional Councilor of Pays-de-la-Loire and Councilor of Pornichet (Loire-Atlantique).

His home had been walled in with "yellow vests" and another member of the movement had threatened to plastify his house, receiving a 10-month suspended sentence.

Gallerneau's deputy, Patrick Loiseau, will succeed him to the Assembly, as provided by the electoral code in case of death, announced later in the chamber the chairperson.
