Britain's Lando Norris (19), the youngest on the starting grid, and Spaniard Carlos Sainz Jr. (24) have extended their deal with McLaren for next season, the British F1 team said on Tuesday.

"Given the good results of Lando and Carlos, it was in our best interest that as our crazy season progresses, (...) we know what we will do next year," said the president of the Zak Brown team.

"This announcement aims to stop speculation," insisted the leader.

The team activated an option to extend the young British driver, who finished four points in his first nine Grands Prix. According to the British press, Norris is now engaged for the next three seasons with McLaren

Both drivers contributed to McLaren's F1 rebirth, while the team was fourth in the constructors' standings after nine races. The Orange cars had not scored more points in the league at this point of the season since 2014.

"Today's announcement gives the team the necessary continuity to move forward, with Carlos and Lando's performance a key element in the team's progress," said Team Principal. Andreas Seidl.
