WASHINGTON (Reuters) - US President Donald Trump launched an attack on the British ambassador to Washington, Kim Daroush, on Monday, as the United States president and administration described him as "incompetent." London opened an investigation after revealing the issue in leaked diplomatic memoirs, »British, the day before yesterday.

Trump said Ambassador Kim Daroush "did not serve the UK well" and that his administration was "not a big fan" of him.

Daroush was quoted in secret memos sent to Britain, read by the newspaper, as saying Trump's presidency was "shattering and burning" and "ending with a disgrace."

The newspaper said that the more severe comments launched by Darush are those which described Trump as "unstable" and "incompetent."

Asked about the leak, Trump told reporters: "We are not a big fan of that man, he did not serve the UK well, so I can understand that, and I can say things about him but I will not care."

For its part, announced London, the day before yesterday, opened an investigation on leaks. "He will open an official inquiry into the leaks," a State Department spokesman said, without questioning the authenticity of the diplomatic notes. British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt himself distanced himself from Darush's remarks, saying that "personal views, not the views of the British government, are not my views."
