The Islamic State organization reappears in Libya again in a video. This video broadcast last weekend by the agency Amaq, the propaganda agency of the terrorist organization, shows about sixty armed men, in a desert place in southern Libya. They renew their allegation to the head of the organization, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. The leader of this group would be the head of the Islamic State organization in Libya.

The person speaking in this video, calling the fighters gathered around him to renew their allegiance to al-Baghdadi, is only Abu Mosaab al-Liby, the emir of what is called the Desert Brigades. , an armed group loyal to the Islamic State organization.

Abu Mosaab al-Liby is a former Ansar al-Sharia, an extremist movement expelled from Benghazi and accused of killing the US ambassador in 2012 . Ansar al-Sharia pledged allegiance to ISIS in 2015.

Specialists identify Abu Mosaab al-Liby as Mahmoud Massoud al-Bara'asi, who would be the emir of the Islamic State in Libya.

In the video, broadcast on Saturday, Abu Mosaab al-Liby calls his men, all with turbans in their faces, to unite behind al-Baghdadi , and to follow the orders of the emirs of the organization's regions.

Behind the group, a row of armed vehicles are lined up. Some of these vehicles were recovered from the Libyan National Army (ANL), the army led by Khalifa Haftar, during the attack on the Tamenhant military base in the south last April.

On Sunday night, Ahmed al-Mismari, the ANL spokesman, downplayed the effect of this video as it is only the remains of the IS in Libya.

Southern Libya targets ISIS

According to some experts, this video is intended to boost the morale of the troops. The call to union shows the weakness of the organization.

On the contrary, observers consider that the current war in Libya has reactivated the organization and stimulated the groups that have pledged allegiance to it in 14 countries of the Sahel and the Sahara.

For several months, ISIS has systematically attacked isolated villages and localities in southern Libya. It targets the ANL and the auxiliary forces as well as the police, but also the civilians who show sympathy for these forces.

Still, this video comes after new allegations to the IS in Africa as in Mali and Burkina Fasso, leading some experts to conclude to divisions within the organization especially after rumors that circulated on the wish of replace al-Baghdadi at the head of the organization after his defeat in Iraq and Syria.

Several US and Russian officials have recently warned against a transfer of Idleb fighters to Libya via Turkey. Their fear is to see IS spread in the Sahel and the Sahara.
