Marc Marquez (Honda) on Sunday won the German MotoGP GP ahead of his compatriot Maverick Vinales (Yamaha), taking the opportunity to fly to the provisional world championship standings before the summer break.

He dominated the race head and shoulders, especially after the fall of Frenchman Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha-SRT), who left in 2nd position on the grid, lost control of his machine in the second lap and fell.

This is the fifth victory this season of the five-time Spanish world champion (and the 49th in MotoGP) which takes a serious option on a sixth title. He now has 58 points ahead of his immediate next, Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati).

"Our strategy was perfect even though my start was not fantastic," said Marquez after the finish, adding that his main concern during the race was to preserve his rear tire after taking the lead.

3rd place went to British Cal Crutchlow (Honda-LCR).

The Spaniard Alex Rins (Suzuki), long 2nd, also dropped. That made the business of the two Italian drivers of Ducati Danilo Petrucci and Andrea Dovizisio who finish respectively 4th and 5th and can thus hold on to Marc Marquez in the championship standings.

This is Marquez's seventh win in as many years on the Sachsenring circuit. He equaled the record set by Valentino Rossi of the number of consecutive victories established on the same circuit, the Mugello in the case of the six-time Italian world champion.

He finished 8th in the race on Sunday.

In addition to Quartararo, the other French engaged in MotoGP, Johann Zarco (KTM), also fell.

The next event is the GP of the Czech Republic on August 4th.
