Hamam Al-Assas - Amman

The "Our Book of Civilization" initiative was launched for reading in the Roman Amphitheater in the Jordanian capital of Amman, amidst the turnout of thousands of citizens who came from all over the world to obtain various books that are distributed free of charge to encourage reading. Literature, science, history and miscellaneous.

The event was organized by the "Azbekiya Amman" Library, the Greater Amman Municipality, the support of the Ministry of Culture and Youth, the Jordanian Literary and Writers Union, the Jordan Youth Foundation and the Crown Prince Foundation.

The initiative included activities to sign books and novels with the participation of some novelists, most notably poet and novelist Ayman al-Atom. The organizers were unable to complete the theater activities they had announced because of the overcrowding of the audience and the unprecedented demand for reading and encouragement.

Hussein Yassin, the initiator of the initiative, told Al-Jazeera Net that he worked on implementing the initiative five years ago without realizing it until his dream became a reality by brushing the Roman amphitheater with thousands of books to get people to read.

He added that the initiative has different objectives, including encouraging domestic tourism and supporting this sector and linking it to culture. The Roman amphitheater is a historical place and a cultural legacy. It should include such activities to raise the level of awareness and contribute to the renaissance of the nation.
