" Donald Trump's administration is dysfunctional! A widely shared finding, but when it is the British ambassador in Washington who says it in memos and reports that leaked in the British press, it becomes a serious diplomatic incident.
British ambassador to the United States, Kim Darroch, according to diplomatic cables that leaked in the Mail on Sunday and which have been picked up by the entire British press, predicts that the Trump presidency may " crash into flames " and to " end in disgrace ".
" We do not think that this administration will become more normal, less dysfunctional, less unpredictable, less divided, less clumsy and inept diplomatically, " wrote Kim Darroch in one of his messages.
The American president would be " unstable " and " incompetent " he adds. Kim Darroch is 65, one of the most experienced diplomats in Washington, where he has been in office since 2016.
In one of his messages dated June 22, he criticizes the US President's policy on Iran, which makes him fear an armed conflict: Donald Trump would have " incoherent " and " chaotic " positions on the subject.
The British Foreign Ministry has not disputed the veracity of these diplomatic memos which according to the Mail on Sunday were probably disclosed by a civil servant. " The British have the right to expect our ambassadors to give our ministers honest assessments of their country's policies, " a spokeswoman for the ministry said. " Their views are not necessarily those of our ministers or our government. "
