A congressional report praised the importance of the strategic dialogue between the United States and Qatar aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation on important regional and international issues.

The report was released mid-last month by the Congressional Research Service, the official research arm that provides members of the House of Representatives with periodic reports on issues of concern to the US policymaker.

The publication of the report is linked to the visit of the Emir of the State of Qatar to Washington this week, which will see a summit meeting with the US President next Tuesday.

The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, will discuss in Washington the development of strategic cooperation between the two countries in various fields.

"The Qatari-American summit will discuss the escalating tension in the Gulf between Tehran and Washington, and the talks will include the issue of Afghanistan as Qatar hosts ongoing negotiations between the Afghan Taliban and the United States," a Qatari source told Al-Jazeera Net.

The dialogue with the Taliban is particularly important to US President Donald Trump, who hopes to reduce the US military presence in Afghanistan.

The congressional report noted that military relations between the two countries have grown steadily since they signed a defense cooperation treaty in 1992.

Qatar hosts the largest base in the Middle East, the largest in the Middle East.

According to the report, the second session of the strategic dialogue resulted in the signing of a memorandum of understanding on "improving and expanding the base of many".

The report confirmed that the relations have undergone a qualitative leap since the start of Washington and Doha "Strategic Dialogue" in January 2018.

Long friendship
The strategic dialogue supports the relations between the two countries in all fields. The sessions are held with the participation of defense and foreign ministers from the two countries, as well as representatives from investment, cultural and commercial sectors.

In this context, the report quoted US military officials as asserting that Qatar represents "a long friendship and military partnership that supports stability in the Middle East and supports the NATO mission in Afghanistan."

Following the last session, a statement issued by the US Embassy in Doha indicated the aspiration of Qatar and the United States to review progress in these areas, which were discussed at the next strategic dialogue conference to be held in Washington in 2020.
