“If the situation between Washington and Tehran worsens, there is a danger that the three million Afghans living in the country will leave Iran,” Minister Welt said.
According to him, many of them will not return to Afghanistan because of the security situation.
“There is a risk of a big wave of migrants to Turkey and to Europe,” noted Asselborn, stressing that this would create major problems for Europe.
In April, the German government adopted a package of laws to facilitate the deportation of migrants who were unable to obtain the right of permanent residence in the country.
