In Somalia, despite the level of insecurity, there is no public ambulance service to help the wounded, especially after an attack by the Shebabs. Since 2006, Aamin Ambulance is the only organization providing free support. 24 hours a day, its twenty ambulances and forty volunteers bring first aid.

As soon as a call arrives on 999 - the emergency line - the drivers of Aamin Ambulance leave to rescue the victims, an activity at risk, under the threat of terrorist attacks Shebabs.

Omar Muhammad Sheikh was injured in an explosion a year ago. The paramedic remains faithful to the post.

" When we arrive on an attack, we send someone to control first, because the risk is that another bomb explodes. Then, we classify the victims in order of priority. Of course I'm scared but the wounded need more help than me. So I put that aside. I saw so many horrors. Shredded bodies, collapsed houses, cars on fire. I have nightmares that wake me up at night. You know in Somalia, there is no psychologist, so I try to live with it, "he says.

In addition to attacks , Aamin ambulance acts on any type of emergency. In 13 years, the organization estimates that it has saved the lives of about 80,000 people. The dentist Abdulkadir Adan is the founder. He struggles to make up the $ 20,000 monthly budget.

" I spent my savings to buy a first vehicle and raised funds among businessmen or students. I wanted to show that they could act. I was getting Aamin Ambulance even before paying the bills for my house. Even my wife sold jewelry. Today, the organization is still fragile. You never know if you'll have enough to go on, but human life is the most precious thing. And I'm committed to saving lives, "he says.

Aamin Ambulance still depends entirely on donations. The organization continues to call for outside help, especially since it wants to expand within the country where ambulance services are non-existent.
