A large-scale attack on Monday, July 1, a camp of the Nigerien army in the area of Inates, in western Niger, near the border with Mali. According to our information, the attack was carried out using "suicide bombers".
The attackers launched the assault with two suicide bombers who hit the Inatès military camp before exploding. Other attackers then arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire.
It is impossible at this stage to say how much they were. It is also unclear whether there are victims in the ranks of the security forces. The authorities have not yet communicated on this attack.
What must be noted is that the attack comes as Niamey, capital of Niger, is preparing to host an African Union summit. The event is scheduled to begin Thursday and will bring together some fifty heads of state. The Nigerian authorities have therefore taken steps. The military apparatus has thus been strengthened in the capital.
Recall that two weeks ago, another attack targeted the security forces, this time at the gates of Niamey , during which two policemen were killed.
