The Minister of National Education wishes to welcome 13,000 additional young people in boarding schools by the end of the five-year period.

The Minister of Education Jean-Michel Blanquer Monday set a goal of 240 boarding schools by the end of the five-year period, to accommodate 13,000 additional youth.

Three types of boarding schools

"The boarding school is an essential lever for access to secondary education but also attractiveness of certain territories (...) and a fundamental lever of social justice," said Jean-Michel Blanquer to the press, considering that "Internat is not four walls, a roof and a bed" but "an ambitious educational project".

The Minister of National Education wishes to develop three types of boarding schools and will entrust this mission to a ministerial delegate to boarding schools appointed in September. Thus will be created 100 boarding schools of excellence, reserved for "deserving" children, on the model of the boarding school of Sourdun, in Seine-et-Marne, which Jean-Michel Blanquer helped to create in 2009 as rector of the academy of Créteil. Another hundred mainly in rural and mountain high schools backed by themed residences (culture, sports ...) and finally, 40 internats type campus professional.

"We have a significant number of high school boarding schools in France but we lack college interns and we have to deal with a latent demand from students," said Jean-Michel Blanquer.

"One of the stakes" is the "Republican brewing"

This plan "internat of the 21st century" was prepared "for a long time" in work "joint with the local authorities", explained the minister. According to him, "one of the challenges of the boarding school" is the "Republican brewing" with "children from rurality who go to boarding schools in the city and children from urban neighborhoods who go to rural boarding schools" . The boarding schools are "not at all" intended only for students from Rep (disadvantaged neighborhoods, Ed), and "it is not the level of the student who is taken into account but his motivation", he adds.

The financing of these structures is "considerably strengthened", according to the ministry, citing the "Edu Prêt '" proposed by the Bank of the territories and endowed with a billion euros for the school building.
