Regularly accused of being too masculine and too white, the Academy of Oscars published Monday the list of the 842 new members invited to join its ranks this year, made up to 50% of women and to 29% of "people of color".

Newcomers include Lady Gaga, Jean-Louis Trintignant and Josiane Balasko.

This is the first time in the history of the Academy of Arts and Cinema that recruitment is half of women, told AFP spokesman. Last year, their share was 49%.

If the new members accept (which is almost always the case), the proportion of women in the Academy will increase to 32%, compared to 25% in 2015. Ten of the seventeen professional categories represented at the Oscars have this year recruited more women than men, says the Academy in its statement.

As for "people of color", they will represent 16% of members, against only 8% in 2015, with among the newcomers several members of the cast of "Black Panther", as actors Sterling K. Brown, Winston Duke or Letitia Wright , and the team of "Crazy Rich Asians" (director Jonathan Chu and actress Gemma Chan).

Star of the batch 2019, the pop diva Lady Gaga enters the Academy. However, she will have to choose between the category "actress", which had not brought him luck last year at the Oscars for his film "A Star Is Born", and that of "music", which earned him the statuette of the best song.

In the second case, Lady Gaga would join Annie Lennox, of the late British pop duo Eurythmics (Oscar for the best song for the third installment of "Lord of the Rings"), the singer Adele and his accomplice the composer Mark Ronson (Amy Winehouse, Bruno Mars, Miley Cyrus ...)

Among the actors, the specialized press notices the arrival of Claire Foy ("First Man" in the cinema, television series "The Crown"), Elizabeth Moss ("Us", series "The Scarlet Servant").

The young Tom Holland, who plays Spider-Man on the screen, is alongside the 88-year-old veteran Jean-Louis Trintignant, legend of French cinema world famous for his role with Brigitte Bardot in "And God ... created the woman "(1956).

On the French side, Camille Cottin ("Larguées", series "Ten percent") is also on the prestigious list, as the actress Mélanie Laurent who is invited by the Academy as a director ("Galveston", "Respire") .

The tricolores are also legion to join the ranks of the writers, headed by Josiane Balasko ("The ex-wife of my life", "Curse Gazon") and the duo formed by Jean-Pierre Bacri and Agnès Jaoui or Coline Serreau, Cédric Klapisch and Maïwenn.

In the very long list of new members of the category "animation", we note the presence of the Japanese Katsuhiro Otomo, father of the mythical manga "Akira" and its adaptation on the big screen.
