One person was shot dead Sunday in the eastern city of Goma (eastern Democratic Republic of Congo) during the dispersal of an opposition march.

Congolese national police spokesman Pierrot Mwanamputu said a person had been "seriously shot and wounded" and was "dead at the hospital".

"They fired live ammunition," said Robert Zibawanza, youth leader of the Lamuka opposition coalition in Goma. "An activist fell on the field," he added.

Forbidden by the authorities, the march should not be repressed, however, according to statements to France 24 President Felix Tshisekedi. "Security forces are trained to keep the peace," he said Saturday on our antenna.
