Renaud Lavillenie finished 8th and last place in the pole vault competition at the Stanford meeting, counting for the Diamond Athletics League on Sunday.

The world record holder for the pole vault (6.16m) stopped at 5.46m. He passed this bar on his first attempt and then failed three times at 5.61m.

Lavillenie, 32, is still in the running-in period. He returned to competition in mid-June, after five months of stopping because of a tear behind a thigh, then tendinitis.

The strong competition was won by Sweden's Armand Duplantis (5.93m), ahead of American Sam Kendricks (5.88m) and Poland's Piotr Lisek (5.71m).
