Al-Jazeera correspondent reported that a clash took place in one of the regions of Mount Lebanon between the escorts of Minister of Displaced Affairs Saleh Al-Gharib and a crowd of supporters of the Progressive Socialist Party, killing two of the minister's escorts.

Following these events, Lebanese President Michel Aoun called on the Supreme Defense Council to convene to discuss the circumstances.

A crowd of supporters of the Progressive Socialist Party led by Walid Jumblatt objected to the visit of Lebanese Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil to the western Shehhar area near the town of Alia in Mount Lebanon when the clash broke out. Al-Jazeera correspondent reported that there were wounded among the crowd.

For his part, Minister Saleh al-Gharib said that his motorcade was shot in what he described as a clear assassination attempt, and confirmed in an interview with a local television that two people were killed in the shooting.

The outsider is close to the pro-Syrian Druze leader Talal Arslan. Arslan said he would hold a press conference to talk about what had happened, blaming the Progressive Socialist Party for what happened.

For his part, the leader of the Progressive Socialist Party Walid Jumblatt asked to investigate the incident. The area where the clash took place is loyal to Jumblatt, the anti-Damascus Druze leader, whose party has denied any involvement in the incident.

On the other hand, the Information Office of the Lebanese Prime Minister said that Prime Minister Saad Hariri conducted a series of contacts including Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil and officials in the leadership of the Progressive Socialist Party and the Democratic Party focused on the need to contain the problem.
