Overseas Minister Annick Girardin pleaded on Sunday for "more responsibilities" for overseas institutions in the context of institutional reform, stressing that this is the "vision" it will defend in the government.

For the minister, "no doubt that more differentiation is needed than what is in the project" of institutional reform to be presented soon in the Council of Ministers.

"It must undoubtedly be said in the overseas territories, which are so different, that the relationship must be contractual, probably in an organic law, that is what will be proposed for each territory overseas" , she continued on the program Dimanche en politique on France 3. "This is not the proposal of the government, but it is my belief today".

"Today I believe in more responsibilities, I believe today more autonomy on certain subjects.I believe in relations of confidence even more important," Ms. Girardin said. "What are the Overseas saying, we want to decide more about the territories, and I think that we have to bring this answer, and that can only be done with the elected officials."

"Fewer senators and fewer MPs, but a lot more local responsibilities, I think it has to be worn like that, that's my vision and it's not in the government's plan." And that's what I will defend, "said the minister.

On the question of decreasing the number of elected officials, Mrs Girardin stressed that "what is clear for overseas is that all territories will have a parliamentary representative".
