After the arrest of about twenty people arrested in protests last Friday, calls for mobilization were launched for Monday, June 24. The courts reproach them for wanting to undermine the integrity of the national territory. In fact, the demonstrators carried Berber flags.

Wednesday, in a speech, the chief of staff denounces attempts to infiltrate the demonstrations. For the first time since the movement, it involves those who carry other flags than the flag of Algeria. And announces that orders have been given to the police.

Friday, June 21, in different cities of the country, demonstrators who carry the Berber flag are arrested . Some like Oran or Setif are released in the evening. Others, in Tamanrasset and Algiers, remain in detention until their presentation in court on Sunday.

In the capital, according to the authorities, 19 young men are auditioned. The judges ask them if they wore a Berber flag. The hearings are individual, but in each case the investigating judges decide to prosecute them for the violation of the integrity of the national territory. All are held in custody. Protesters face up to 10 years in prison. In a statement, the League of Human Rights recalls that no law prohibits the Berber flag in Algeria.
