The event on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the landing of the coalition was attended by representatives of 16 countries, including the leaders of the United States and France, as well as Queen of Great Britain Elizabeth II.

"75 years ago, hundreds of thousands of young soldiers, sailors and pilots left these shores in the name of freedom ... Many of them did not return, but the sacrifice made by the dead, their courage and heroism will never be forgotten," said Elizabeth II.

At the end of May, the Russian embassy in Britain confirmed the receipt of an invitation to the solemn events on the occasion of the anniversary of the Allied landings in Normandy.

The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Sergey Lavrov, in his article “On Victory Day” on the website of the magazine “International Affairs” noted that over time, the truth about the Second World War is distorted in the West.

He expressed the opinion that now more and more often the main merit in the victory over fascism is attributed not to Russia, but to allies who have landed in Normandy.
