France will end the mille-feuille of the various cells in charge of the fight against narcotics. Studying for more than a year, the project of a central drug office should be presented to the President of the Republic in the coming days, as the newspaper Le Monde reveals. The objective is to improve the fight against trafficking, as has been done in the fight against terrorism with the DGSI.

The stated objective of this reform is to decompartmentalize the operation of the various services working on the fight against drugs. Currently, a multitude of entities are mobilized, such as the Central Office for the suppression of the illicit traffic in narcotics, the departmental security, the customs or even the search brigades of the gendarmerie. An administrative mille-feuille that sometimes hinders the exchange of information and therefore the effectiveness of the fight against drug smuggling.

The Ministries of the Interior and Justice - in agreement with Matignon - have therefore decided to set up a Central Anti-Drug Office to collect all the information.

Contribute to a more effective fight

Under the leadership of the Central Directorate of the Judicial Police, this new body will also be able to rely on drug intelligence units at the departmental level.

The daily security police, in direct contact with the difficult neighborhoods, will also be involved in order for the fight to be effective at all levels.

Finally, the other aim of this reform is to put an end to the sometimes dubious practices of the Central Office for the Suppression of Narcotic Drugs, often accused of being too close to its informants.
