Dutchman Tom Dumoulin, who has not raced since his retirement from the Giro, will be at the start of the Critérium du Dauphiné starting Sunday in Aurillac.

The Sunweb team announced Wednesday the return of its leader, injured left knee May 15 after his fall in the fifth stage of the Tour of Italy leading to Frascati.

"His recovery has been slower than expected and will be subject to a final MRI analysis tomorrow (Thursday), as a final check before his departure for France," said the German training.

"He will then use the Dauphiné to keep pace with the race and reach bigger goals in July, and we will take a day-to-day approach, taking no chances and not focusing on the overall standings," added Sunweb.

Dumoulin, 28, will be in July one of the favorites of the Tour de France that finished last year in the second place.
