In Portsmouth, Britain, solemn events were held on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Allied troops landing in Normandy. As part of Operation Overlord, in the summer of 1944, a second front was opened in the European theater of operations in World War II. To celebrate the anniversary of those events arrived war veterans, members of the royal family of Great Britain, as well as leaders of 16 countries, including Donald Trump, Teresa May, Emmanuel Macron and Angela Merkel. The organizers did not invite the Russian delegation, although in 2004 and 2014, Vladimir Putin participated in the celebration of the 60th and 70th anniversary of the landing in Normandy.
