The US online retail giant Amazon said on Wednesday that it plans to start delivering parcels by drones soon.

"We have worked hard to design all-electric UAVs that can travel up to 25 km and deliver to customers packages weighing less than 2.3 kg in less than 30 minutes," said group executive Jeff Wilke. blog note.

"We hope to (...) deliver parcels by drones in the coming months," he added, without specifying where these deliveries could take place.

Amazon conducted its first drone delivery trials in the UK in 2016, with US laws making it the most stringent exercise in the US at the time, according to the online trading giant.

Delivery drones can "take off and land vertically, like a helicopter," Wilke said, assuring that the aircraft had been designed to remain stable even in heavy winds.

"We know that customers will be reassured to be delivered by drones only if the system is 100% safe," he said.

Amazon said earlier this year that it wants to reduce delivery times for customers who subscribe to its premium service.
