Specialists conducted a study (the text is at the disposal of RT), during which they reviewed the already existing monitoring systems and described the criteria for developing the so-called promising SMES, which can be used in passenger and freight vehicles.

According to the engineers, in particular, the AMS will include such functions as preventing falling asleep with the help of audible, visual and tactile signals; remote monitoring of the driver's physiological state (his pulse, respiration rate, head position, and so on); check the mental state of the driver, as well as whether he is intoxicated.

According to scientists, the main task of a prospective SMURV is to prevent such states of the driver as inattention, drowsiness, stress, aggression and loss of consciousness.

Communication with the driver, as conceived by engineers, should be organized through an intelligent control panel, which, if necessary, will give signals about the need to change driving style, stop for rest, and will also form a permit for the subsequent engine start.

According to engineers, about 25% of road accidents occur due to carelessness, falling asleep, loss of consciousness or death due to fatigue, stress, neglect of own health, as well as errors due to reassessment of their driving skills.

Obligatory installation of SMUV on the specified types of vehicles will be able to help solve the problem with accident rate, experts state.

According to Viktor Pokhmelkin, chairman of the Movement of Motorists of Russia, increasing control over the actions of truck drivers and buses is an urgent and important task in the Russian traffic.

He noted that international transport in such vehicles has long been carried out with the use of special devices that monitor the condition of the driver.

“In our country, such a system has not yet taken root, but the idea of engineers deserves attention and detailed discussion. Measures to strengthen control over the behavior of drivers of such vehicles are necessary, since so far quite a lot of accidents happen with their participation. It is important to monitor the actions of drivers and monitor their work and rest conditions, ”the expert noted.

Earlier in the Russian Road Research Institute proposed to reduce the speed of cars in the winter.
