French MotoGP rider Fabio Quartararo has undergone surgery on his right forearm to relieve muscle damage, which has particularly hampered him during the weekend at the Italian Grand Prix, his Yamaha-SRT team announced on Tuesday. .

Quartararo has been operated in Barcelona, where he must remain under observation until Wednesday, but he should be operational for the next race, the Grand Prix of Catalonia next week.

The intervention was not planned but the young Frenchman of 20 years was embarrassed to his right arm at the end of Sunday race at Mugello and he decided to consult a specialist, Dr. Xavier Mir.

This one has detected a "syndrome of the lodges", that is to say that a muscle is found too cramped in his "box" during an effort, which proves particularly painful and in this case quite handicapping for a professional driver. Even though the problem was not urgent, it was decided to operate immediately the Yamaha driver.

"I preferred to have surgery now in order to avoid any surprises in the future and forget about that for the rest of the season," responded Fabio Quartararo in the statement of his team.

"It was a short operation (about an hour, note) that many bikers undergo and that was carried out by a master in the matter," continued the Frenchman, who thinks he can be handed over before the Grand Prix of Catalonia, the June 16 in Barcelona.

At the Mugello last weekend, this concern in the right forearm disabled Quartararo, who had started from the 2nd position but could not do better than 10th in the race.
