The complaint against Boris Johnson comes from the businessman Marcus Ball. He believes that the former mayor of London has knowingly lied throughout the Brexit campaign, claiming that the UK paid £ 350 million a week to Brussels, instead of using that money to better finance its operations. health services.

The role played by Boris Johnson in the campaign was decisive for the victory of Brexit, voted with 52% of the vote in 2016. Boris Johnson knew that this figure was inaccurate and exaggerated, argues Marcus Ball who intends to prosecute for "serious misconduct in the exercise of its functions ".

The MP has already rejected his accusations via his lawyer. He denounces an essentially political maneuver in the heat of Theresa May's succession to become conservative leader and prime minister.

Called the inveterate liar and charlatan, some opposition MPs have already welcomed the fact that Boris Johnson must finally be held accountable.

For many commentators, this case could nevertheless be a real boon and increase support for the candidate. Boris Johnson will appear as a scapegoat while the peremptory statements of many politicians have never earned them to be prosecuted by the courts.
